Here came the timid deer

“Here Came the Timid Deer” is a deeply rooted traditional Lithuanian folk song about a beautiful Lithuanian Christmas. In this song, the story about Christmas is told more like a fairy tale: it is tied to customs and magic. Many Lithuanian customs and spells that come from the ancestors are still preserved and carried out on Christmas Eve. Some old beliefs are also kept. For example, a deer was always a sign of a proposal for young ladies. There are also many other mystical and symbolical creatures, like peacocks, blacksmiths, and fairies.
